well, the weekend was a complete blast. my sister was in town, and we went and played games with friends and went to the ren fest. Even if I had a stenographer in my back pocket, I would not have been able to capture all of the worthwhile quotes that came out of this weekend. Instead, I’ll give you a bunch of random snippets of conversations or ideas that may have been discussed or observed over the course of the weekend:

- pa-POW! Toast is DONE, M—– F—–!!
- BAM! is the sound babies make when they explode.
- early mornings suck
- renfest outfits make some people very dancy.
- dancing is contagious
- sound and fury = awesome
- my sister has been places I haven’t.
- magic is still fun.
- apparently, I can be intimidating just by walking.
- throwing stars are easier than throwing axes.
- I don’t think there’d be as much giggling as you think.
- there are not nearly enough broken headlights in houston.
- some hugs will just knock your feathers off.
- I was cheated. at least twice.
- I am Swishy McSwisherton.
- you can fit more people in a bed if they’re naked.
- That’s what she said.

there are so many other things, and I might get to post them later, but I really need sleep. suffice it to say that my sister will never think of me the same again after spending a weekend around me and my friends. :) tomorrow, I send her back to memphis, and that is sad. it’s been fun having family around, even if it was only for a short while.

just…. old.

Note to self (and world):  David Letterman is getting old.  Thank you, that is all.

Ren fests

Published under Uncategorized.

I don’t think I’ve posted about the ren fest, yet.  So let me fix that.

We’ve been to the ren fest twice this year.  It was very much fun.  Also, the time before and after ren fests have been great this year, too, although next time I may pre-stack the bedroom furniture just for fun.  (I love writing obscure things and then not explaining them.)   Krystals was good, and I look forward to more krystals at some point in the future… oh, and ruby tuesdays, but now I’m really getting off topic.

You know, as awesome as the ren fest is and all, it really makes me miss cold weather.  We don’t seem to have any of that here.  I mean, ren costumes are all about layers of clothes and leather and cloaks, etc…  which you can’t really wear comfortably if it’s 90 degrees outside.  I mean, I have a cloak of awesomeness (+1), and I can’t wear it because it’s also a cloak of staying very warm (+4).  Likewise, I saw some pretty nice leather jackets/vests last time I went, but they’re leather, and I was hot enough in just the top I had on.

I also miss being rich… oh wait, I’ve never been rich.  :)    but that’s besides the point.  Outfits are expensive.  The jacket I want is about $250.  for a jacket.  Then there’s hats, boots, gauntlets, sword and all the associated rigging that goes with that…   I could spend $1500 and still not be 100% done… there’s always something else, but I guess that’s the point.  I envy girls on this point.  Girls can get very good looking, complete outfits for under $200.  probably easier to do when there’s less leather and steel involved.  Hur-rumph.

And, yup, we’re going back to the ren fest this weekend, too.  Should be fun, althought I do hate that my brother couldn’t make it, too, this time.  Maybe next year…

20% chance of what?

Published under Uncategorized.

Meant to post this yesterday, but oh well…

Yesterday, when I left to go to Russian, it was nice, warm, and sunny.  When I left Russian, it was cold and pouring rain.  I had no umbrella.  Proceeded to get completely soaked getting back to my building.  And then I had to go straight away to teach a class.  Soaked.

When I got back to my desk, I checked the weather to see what I had missed.  The forecast said it was partly cloudy in the morning with a 20% chance of Chad looking like a soaked moron by mid-afternoon.  Go figure.

Odd?

Kind of an odd thing to say about someone in a farewell email:  "As a backup manager, L— was dedicated to maintaining a professional dress code in his cube by requiring certain females to wear skirts throughout his tenure. For this, we salute you Mr. —-. "

I can’t see anything but sexism coming from that statement.  Anyone else see something different?

Q: How are a banjo player and a blind javelin thrower alike?
A: Both command immediate attention and alarm, and force everyone to move out of range.

What’s up, doc?

Painfully sad, yet, appropriate conversation for the nerds we are:

Edit: ok, the SA’s are racking up the quotes today. they’re browsing pics of odd things on the internet.

“Spider pig, spider pig…” – while looking at an eight legged pig.

“looks like a chessboard attacked by a ninja.” – while looking at… well, we don’t know for sure.
