Fences and fairies

I don’t really have anything to say, but I’m tired of looking at my blog and seeing "tomatoaid."   Especially after it was pointed out to me that "tomatoade" would have been more correct.

Things around here have been… expensive and tiring.  We finally have a fence again.  It’s a much better fence than what we started with, but it was a lot of work.  In order to save a bunch of money, I decided to reuse a lot of the old material.  I’m not sure how many hours I spent taking pickets off of 2×4’s and taking nails out of them, but it’s what I did for around a week.  Fun, huh?  Rather than put it all back up myself, I hired some guys to help out, and that’s where the expensive part comes in…   I did have to buy some new materials, and that wasn’t real cheap, either.  Overall, I shouldn’t complain, though…   I end up spending about half what other companies had quoted.   Now, that’s probably because the work that I put in myself, but it was a good trade.

You know, it’s kind of one of these subtle and interesting subconscience things, but my backyard seems like a backyard now.  Before, they had it set up such that the pickets were on the inside of the fence, so looking out into the yard was like looking at someone else’s fence.  I had them flip it around so that the rails were inside the yard.  In addition to making it harder for other people to jump the fence into the yard, it somehow makes it seem more like a backyard?

One very interesting thing about the fence…   my dad was thinking about flying in to help me build the fence, but he couldn’t make it.   The guy I hired to help me was named Mark Hammonds.  No kidding.

Other than continuing to recover from Ike, not much is happening around here.  Ren Fest is going on.  That’s always fun.  I bought some boots the other weekend, so now I have a "complete" costume.  (musketeer boots, not cowboy boots.)  So, now I can work on getting the extras that make a costume excellent instead of just complete.  Boots were a little pricy, so the extras may have to wait until next year.  We’ll see, I guess.  It’s kinda funny…   I’m struggling to put something together, and Deedee says, hmmm… maybe I’ll wear some satin cord over my shirt instead of my corset (obvious reasons), and people still take pictures of her.   What can I say…   my wife is hot, even when she’s pregnant.   :)
