Today was the first time I can ever remember being disappointed in a Church of Christ. Deedee and I went to the Po’Dunk Church of Christ today, and I just don’t know how to sum up how much it annoyed me. The preacher did not tell anyone about Christ, nor did he tell anyone about salvation. He did not tell anyone about all the good Christian things you expect when you go to church. He didn’t even preach a fire, Hell, and damnation sermon. He preached the one sermon that ranks #1 on the list of sermons that piss me off and I never like to hear. He preached about why his denomination is the only correct denomination. That’s right… an hour sermon on why everyone else is wrong. Wasn’t so bold as to say everyone else was going to Hell, but I’m pretty sure it was implied.

What pisses me off even more is the fact that the preacher recognized and made a big deal about how today was one of the largest visitor days they had. So instead of teaching all these visitors some insight into Christ they previously did not have, he spent an hour bashing Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, and every other denomination that was not his.

What pisses me off even more than that is the fact that to prove himself correct, he quoted scripture very out of context, he misquoted stuff, he misrepresented stuff, he ignored choice facts, and flat out lied about history. Quoting scripture out of context pisses me off. seriously.

Last, but not least, for several of the problems he pointed out from other churches, the Churches of Christ are just as guilty as any other church. ticks me off. hypocrit.

and to tie the whole bad experience together, the song leader had no sense of pitch and didn’t use a tuning key, so all the songs were off key.

But the whole message thing really takes the cake. I don’t know if I’ll be back to that church again or not… but rest assured, if I ever go back, and they start talking like that again, I’m gonna do one of two things. I’m either gonna get up and politely leave, or I’m going to charge the podium and address the entire congregation and explain to them they are being led astray.

(This may be a repeat, but it is appropriate)

Quote of the Day:

“This is Suck!”
